Kavraki Selected as IEEE RAS Distinguished Lecturer

Lydia Kavraki has been selected to serve as a Distinguished Lecturer for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS). The Distinguished Lecturer Program is a flagship program of the IEEE RAS, and its goal is to promote the field of Robotics and Automation to the broad engineering community, as well as to the public at large. Lecturers are appointed by the President Elect and are chosen based on the appointee’s reputation for outstanding research and/or teaching, willingness and ability to present several lectures per year outside of the appointee’s home city, and to reflect the geographical distribution of RAS members.

Distinguished Lecturers serve as ambassadors of the Society for a two-year term. There are 24 total Distinguished Lecturers, eight per geographic region (Asian and Pacific, Europe, and the Americas). Duties include promoting the field of robotics and automation by arranging and presenting at least one public lecture per year aimed at non-specialists; presenting other lectures to local IEEE chapters; attending the annual Young Professionals Lunch at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation; responding to press inquiries; interacting with relevant technical committees of the RAS society and IEEE; and encouraging young students and RAS members.
