Three CS majors elected to Phi Beta Kappa

April 19, 2006 - Three undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa in recognition of their outstanding achievement in the liberal arts and sciences.

Brown College student Timothy Bussmann, Sid Richardson College student Bradley Chase, and Baker College student Michael Friedman are among 70 individuals at Rice University elected to the Beta of Texas Chapter.  The official initiation ceremony will take place on Friday, May 12th at Hamman Hall.

To qualify for election to Phi Beta Kappa, a student must have completed at least 90 semester hours in courses that reflect a genuine love of learning.  At least ten of these courses must be chosen from outside the division in which the student's major lies.

Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary.  Phi Beta Kappa elects over 15,000 new members a year from 270 chapters across the United States.  The Society's emblem of a golden key is recognized as a symbol of academic achievement.
