Computer science students win 2006 REA awards
April 25, 2006 - Baker College student Amanda Cruess and Sid Richardson College student Lucas Hansen were both awarded Rice Engineering Alumni (REA) awards this past Saturday at the annual REA picnic.
Cruess was awarded the Junior Merit Award of $1,375 and Hansen was awarded the Senior Merit Award of $1,375. Each year, the REA grants one junior and one senior from each of the seven departments of the Brown School of Engineering with a Merit Award.
Other awards presented at Saturday’s picnic include: the Harianna Butler Award for a deserving married undergraduate; the Alan Chapman Achievement Award for a mechanical engineering undergraduate; the Hershel M. Rich Outstanding Invention Award for an outstanding invention by faculty, graduate students, and/or undergraduate students, and the Sartwelle/Buckley Award for an outstanding junior mechanical engineering student. This year, the awards totaled $40,000.
